Shahdag goes up to a height of 2,100m but don’t worry if it’s unusually mild. there are 13 slopes catering for all skill levels and a network of ski lifts to get you to each.
So whether you want to hurtle down a black run or take it easy on a genteel green, there’s something here to suit. In fact, even if you don’t go anywhere near a pair of skis, you’ll have a great time thanks to the resort’s spas and restaurants. |
Just 25km from downtown Kusar, Shahdag can be found in one of the most beautiful regions of Azerbaijan.
Winter (for snow fiends) is ski season and runs from December to April. Summer offer spectacular glacial lakes, wildflower meadows, canyons and incredible flora and fauna. |
Candy Cane Mountains
One of Azerbaijan’s most beautiful stretches of road leads for about 40 kilometres from the Guba-Baku highway west towards the mountain village of Altiaghaj. Roughly mid-way between the two one passes through a dramatic valley flanked by rolling shale mountains whose astonishing red, orange, pink and chalk-coloured swirls led British travel writer Mark Elliott to dub them the Candy Cane Mountains, a name that’s stuck with travellers ever since. The astonishing colours are said to be due to groundwater that’s altered the oxidation state of iron compounds within the rock. |
Shahdag National Park
An awe-inspiring untamed beautiful territory that stretches across over 130,000 hectares. Established in 2006, this ecological sanctuary protects an array of endangered and endemic species, offering an incredible opportunity to experience nature at its purest. Adventure seekers can traverse the mountains on hiking trails and discover ethnic villages such as Laza. Those seeking serenity can find respite in sweeping grasslands and tranquil forests, composed of a wonderful mixture of trees, including Iberian and oriental oaks, pistachio and Caucasian hornbeam. |
Shahdag Mountain Resort
The Shahdag Mountain Resort in the northern Gusar region opened in 2012 as the first ski resort in Azerbaijan. Since then it has developed into a superb all-round tourism centre with a wide range of activities in both winter and summer. The resort features a dedicated winter activities area for children, complete with seaways, snowmobiles, ziplines, and quads. Summer at Shahdag unfolds with a diverse selection of activities such as zip-lining, mountain biking, paragliding, and swimming. |

Alpine Coaster
Located at 1,430 metres above sea level, the coaster – the only mountain coaster in the Caucasus, features a 1670m track with 9 thrilling turns, allowing adrenaline seekers the unique opportunity to experience the stunning mountain scenery, snow-covered in winter and perfectly green in summer, while zooming down at 42km/h. The 50 sleds installed on the attraction allow 300-350 people to use it per hour. |
Snowshoeing

Trottinet
The riding surface for trotting biking is incredibly varied. In general, biking takes place over uneven and hilly terrain. Using the ski lift №4, you can take your trottinets and start a fun descent down the Shadda slope. Adventure sports like rifle shooting to hiking to cycling to paragliding, it's all here.
